Optimal Shape Design of a Cavity for Radar Cross Section Reduction
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper focuses on the reduction of radar cross section (RCS) for a cavity embedded in an infinite ground plane. By introducing a transparent boundary condition, the unbounded scattering problem is reduced to a bounded domain problem. RCS reduction for the cavity is formulated as a shape optimization problem involving the Helmholtz equation. The existence of the minimizer is proved under an appropriate constraint. Descent directions of the objective function with respect to the boundary may be found via the domain derivative. It is used in a gradient-based optimization scheme to find the optimal shape of the cavity. Numerical examples show that the RCS is effectively reduced at different incident frequencies.

Monopole Antenna Radar Cross Section Reduction with Plasma Helix
In this paper, a new method for radar cross section reduction of a monopole antenna is proposed. In this method, a plasma helix like fluorescent bulbs is placed around the antenna element. The selected plasma parameter for this medium acts as an absorber without disturbing the antenna performance. The simulations show that radar cross section of simulated antenna is reduced in a wide frequency ...
متن کاملCross Section Effects on Convergence-Confinement Method in Multi Stage Tunnel Excavation
Dimensionless coefficient () in convergence confinement method shows the relaxation of stress in the wall of the tunnel at different excavation movements. This factor is considered a constant number in previous studies and tunnel geometric characteristics (such as depth, cross-section shape, radius, soil material, etc.) are not included in its determination; however, ignoring these effects can...
متن کاملRadar cross section reduction of a cavity in the ground plane
This paper investigates the reduction of backscatter radar cross section (RCS) for a rectangular cavity embedded in the ground plane. The bottom of the cavity is coated by a thin, multilayered radar absorbing material (RAM) with possibly different permittivities. The objective is to minimize the backscatter RCS by the incidence of a plane wave over a single or a set of incident angles. By formu...

The reduction of backscatter radar cross section(RCS) in TE polarization for a rectangular cavity embedded in the ground plane is investigated in this paper. It is established by placing a thin, multilayered radar absorbing material(RAM) with possibly different permittivities at the bottom of the cavity. A minimization problem with respect to the backscatter RCS is formulated to determine the s...

Background: Radiotherapy is an important technique of cancer treatment using ionizing radiation. The determination of total dose in reference conditions is an important contribution to uncertainty that could achieve 2%. The source of this uncertainty comes from cavity theory that relates the in-air cavity dose and the dose to water. These correction factors are determined from Monte Carlo calcu...
